The Commitment
Everything changed in June of 2011. Alicia was working as an intern for the Department of Environmental Protection doing black fly management. She absolutely loved this, her very first job. She would drive all over the lower Susquehanna region collecting samples.
On the morning of June 3rd, she was out on a different kind of boat on the river with her supervisor, Doug Orr, having an amazing time looking for more samples and enjoying a bit of an adventure. Sadly, it would be her last, at least in this life. She was called home to Heaven in a car accident as she was leaving to return to the office.
In the days following and during the visitations and memorial service, the boat was frequently discussed. It was a major goal she had, even if it was just a simple, fun plan. She had touched many of us with her love of the outdoors, nature, and Creation, and we were determined right away that we had to finish and sail the boat.
